The last two weeks have been absolutely gratifying for me. I had the pleasure of helping three different clients find and secure their new NYC homes.
One was a rental client relocating from Geneva to start a new position at her firm's Madison Avenue office. She arrived in Manhattan just as our recent heat wave began to clinch its unrelenting grip on the City. Within minutes of starting our search on the Upper West Side we were both drenched in sweat and there was no trying to hide the fact we were both politely trying to look our best in the midst of the sweltering heat. We had a mission to find her the perfect apartment and after visiting at least 20 units all over the Upper West and East as well as Midtown, she picked a large, sunny unit on a beautiful tree lined section of West 87th. Mission accomplished!
The next client was a lovely couple who originally had intentions of buying a one bedroom apartment in Manhattan or Brooklyn. Realizing there was nothing matching up to their requirements in Manhattan we headed to Brooklyn. On our first day out we saw several strong possibilities Downtown Brooklyn at Be@Schemerhorn and The Toren and a boutique building in Prospect Heights. Liking the amenities, design and layouts at Be@Schemerhorn my clients contemplated an offer. Then, after more contemplation, they made the decision to rent instead. Not a problem! My years of experience in the rental market took over and set to work looking at apartments on the Upper West Side. As the fates would have it, one of the units I had shown my Geneva client was perfect for this couple. Done. Leases signed and another happy ending.
The grand daddy of them all, however, is the saga of my short sale listing at 4 N. 5th Street aka Northside Piers Tower One. I plan to go into this in much detail in another entry , but, for now, what matters most is that this deal is done. I represented both the seller and the buyer and after a topsy turvey ride that included the real estate market decline, a crash course in short sales, a rogue attorney who absconded with my buyer's deposit and many, many other twists and turns, this deal is now complete. My buyer is the very happy owner of his first condo overlooking the East River with Magnificent views of Manhattan and my seller can now finally get a full night of sleep in his bed in Norway.
So, why am I a real estate professional? That's simple. The best part of my job is helping others start or complete a pivotal phase of their lives. And that is deeply gratifying and satisfying to me. You see at the end of every deal is a new chapter in the ever-unfolding story of New York City.
